When the chant was done, and lingering
Died upon the evening air,
From the hill the radiant Angels
Still were listening there.
Silent came the gathering darkness,
Bringing with it sleep and rest.
Save a little bird was singing
Near her leafy nest.
Through the sounds of war and labor
She had warbled all day long,
While the Angels leant and listened
Only to her song.
But the starry night was coming
When she ceased her little lay,
From the mountaintop the Angels,
Slowly passed away.

My anchor has lost its hold

I am adrift

My boat is going where it will

The sails are tattered and torn

The sea seems enormous and uncharted

It throws me hither and thither

Into the deepest, darkest trough of despair

Then up into the sunlight and for a while there is hope

Then back again into the darkness

Will my little craft be overwhelmed?

As the huge waves of grief engulf it, will it come up again?

And again and again?

They say 'time heals…
'
Can my little boat be trimmed out with new sails?

Can it sail again into a calm harbour and put down its anchor?

Can the navigation system be mended, so I know where I am going?

In time, in time…

but not yet.

This storm has to be passed through, and then a time will come to re-enter the harbour and return to still waters.

Trooping down they come from heaven
In their noiseless flight.

The sickly breath of sorrow passes through,
another life is strangled far too soon;
as panorama fades to tepid view
and sunset seems to fall each day at noon.

♥

As black replaces colours for a time,
religious thoughts aim lightning bolts at God;
with no one else to blame for such a crime
the voice of sanity cuts like a rod.

♥

A vow that every day you’ll cut the scar
and bleed again for one whose love was true;
you kneel and pray nostalgic repertoire
and try to will an answer back to you.

♥

As life goes on the days pass by so fleet
and memories fade to pallid balls of light;
normality returns, you live, you eat
and soon you only cry alone, at night.

♥

Then one day you will hear a tiny voice
a calming influence that says “Be Free,
don’t dwell on death and sorrow – there’s a choice
Be sure that I will live in memory.”

♥

So should you know of death then grieve a while
and then let grief abate and carry on;
if forced to live, then do it with a smile
for that’s the wish of loved ones who are gone.

There’s a new star that shines in the sky
that wasn’t there before.
The traveler went from here to there
and walked through heaven’s door.
And God placed the star in your sight
so that you could see
that your loved one’s shining down on you
through all eternity.

♥

They do not hurt. They have no pain.
They’re in a place of love.
And when their star shines for you
from the heavens up above
be at peace and then give thanks
that miracles await.
They came to your loved one as they left this life
and approached the Pearly Gate.

So when you think of them at night
search the night time sky.
The brightest star that’s shining down
is where their love does lie.
